Just inches passed the yard of bricks he crossed 10 years ago to win the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 as a rookie, Alexander Rossi, ECR Honda stalled 20 laps into the Sonsio Grand Prix at IMS.
Following stalling, Rossi sarcastically thanked Honda over the radio, and waited for the local yellow to switch to full course yellow. Rossi sat frustrated in his hot race car, absorbing the heat of the asphalt. The full-course yellow did not come until Rossi left the cockpit of his vehicle.
Rossi hopped over the barrier to pit road alongside the Indianapolis Motor Speedway front stretch. Once he safely made it back to the pits, he shared his frustrations with team owner Ed Carpenter before talking about both his engine failure and the missed flag with Fox Sports' Georgia Henneberry.
Well, it is pretty annoying to have failures on the car because of a product that we didn't ask for that doesn't improve the racing, so that's frustrating," Rossi began. Second of all, the fact that it took that long to throw a full-course yellow when the car's on the front straight, people are going by at 170 miles an hour. Also, it seems insane when they don't let us drive in the wet yesterday. So I don't really know where the priorities lie. I'm pretty frustrated."
Rossi's closing comment was in reference to INDYCAR's decision to postpone qualifying in the wet yesterday due to unsafe conditions with too much standing water on track.
