Switzerland is usually a safe haven for racing royalty. That changed this week. Alain Prost just survived a horrific home invasion. A gang of armed thieves targeted the four-time F1 World Champion at his family villa. The break-in sparked a massive police hunt across two countries. It also left the seventy-one-year-old racing icon battered and bruised.

As per Blick (Swiss outlet), the attack happened early Tuesday morning. At roughly 8:30 AM, masked intruders broke into his house. The property sits right on Lake Geneva in Nyon. Alain Prost and his family were home. Things turned violent fast, and the men assaulted him directly.

Prost suffered a head injury during the sudden clash. Then, the gang turned their sights on the rest of the family. They threatened them until one of his sons caved. The thieves forced him to unlock a secure safe. They grabbed everything inside and ran out the front door into the quiet early morning. Thankfully, he will recover. His physical injuries are minor. The emotional toll on the family is obviously massive.

A Massive Manhunt

Nyon is located right next to the French border. This makes catching the crew incredibly difficult. The police response was instant and huge. Local police deployed canine units. Forensic teams swept the house. Even border security agents got involved.

Since the thieves likely escaped into France, foreign authorities joined the search. An emergency trauma team also rushed to the villa to help the family cope. So far, the suspects are still out there hiding from the authorities. No arrests have been made by the local detectives yet.

As per the latest statements from The Vaud cantonal police, informed that they have “launched a large-scale search operation and informed the public prosecutor’s office, which opened a criminal investigation.”

A Disturbing F1 Trend?

This is not an isolated event. Racing elites are massive targets for organized crime. Willi Weber managed Michael Schumacher for years. A while back, thieves tied him up and robbed his Stuttgart villa. Current F1 drivers like Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris have faced street muggings.

Criminals know who these guys are. They track their wealth and plan their attacks carefully over several long months. Alain Prost raced in the F1 deadliest era. He survived the track without harm. Nobody expects to face that kind of danger in their own living room. The entire racing community just hopes the police catch the guys who actually did this.
