Al Horford makes final decision on player option with Warriors, NBA future originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Veteran big man Al Horford plans to continue his career as a member of the Golden State Warriors.
Horford plans to decline his $6 million player option for the 2026-27 NBA season and intends to sign a new two-year, $14 million contract with the Warriors, according to ESPN. Horford's new deal with the Warriors will be fully guaranteed and includes a trade kicker.
Horford's first season in Golden State last year was derailed by injury issues for key contributors like Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler. So, Horford wanted to run it back with a [hopefully] healthy squad and see what they could do.
"I want to see it through. That [injury] kind of put a damper on things. Jimmy is a very special player, and he was doing so much for us. I feel like things were starting to turn," Horford said.
"Me being here a year, being acclimated with [coach Steve] Kerr, with Steph, with everybody else, I feel like we can continue to take steps forward and have a better season," Horford said.
