American Nelly Korda got off to a rough start in her quest to win her third major this season.

Then, she bogeyed No. 18 and double-bogeyed No. 1. Korda had two more bogeys on No. 4 and No. 5 and is tied for 101st on the leaderboard."I don't know. It's Evian. That's all I'm going to say … I've hit some really good shots and ended up in some really bad places and hit some bad places and ended up in good places," Korda said after the round. "What I learned every year is patience is key out here. I'm still figuring it out."
Akie Iwai, from Japan, is leading the tournament at 8-under. Korean Haeran Ryu, who secured her first major title at the Women's PGA Championship last month, is tied for fourth at 5-under.
Korda won the first two majors of the 2026 season and had a chance on the back nine at the Women's PGA, where she finished tied for eighth. She has had her least major success at the Evian Resort Golf Club in France. She finished in 43th place last year, with her best finishes coming in 2022 (No. 8) and 2023 (No. 9) when she cracked the top 10. The Evian Championship also marks the third major tournament in six weeks.
Babe Zaharias of the U.S. was the first woman to win three majors in one season in 1950. Inbee Park of South Korea was the last to accomplish the feat in 2013. Korda's chances are lessened after the opening round.
