After a one-year stop with the Colts, Joe Flacco is headed back to the team that resurrected his career.
Flacco has signed a one-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, with incentives that could allow him to take control of a starting role again.
The 40-year-old quarterback spent last season as the Colts backup until he was named the starter for two games following a controversial decision to bench Anthony Richardson. Flacco threw for 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions across six starts and eight games, some spent filling in for Richardson due to injury as well.
Flacco's struggles compounded during the two games with Richardson on the bench, and the Colts went back to Richardson until he suffered a back injury that kept him out for the final two games.

Insider: Why Colts changed how they were developing Anthony Richardson
Flacco arrived in Indianapolis on the heels of a career resurgence in Cleveland, where he signed late in the season after a rash of injuries and led the Browns to a wildcard playoff appearance as the NFL's Comeback Player of the Year. It was the first season of any real success in half a decade for the former first-round pick and Super Bowl MVP of the Ravens, though it didn't present him a starting opportunity the next offseason.
Instead, he signed with the Colts in order to reunite with coach Shane Steichen and to back up a player in Richardson who was coming off shoulder surgery.
Now, the Colts are still unsure whether Richardson is their starter for the future, but they decided to invest more in the competition around him by bringing in Daniel Jones on a one-year deal worth at least $14 million. That move spelled the end for Flacco in Indianapolis, as he would be looking for an opportunity to get on the field at age 40.
Flacco is the second Colts quarterback to sign elsewhere this spring, after Sam Ehlinger joined the Broncos. It leaves Indianapolis with an opening for a third quarterback, which could come in the draft later this month.
