We can already see all the changes with new Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy, across the board. McCarthy has completely revamped the way training camp practices happen and now it sounds like is changing things for the workload in the preseason. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers talked about what McCarthy wants from him in the preseason and that includes playing him in each of the team's first two preseason games this year.
“He (wants me out there for) 30 or 40 plays,” Rodgers said. “I said, ‘Mike, if you want me to play, I’ll play.’ I’m not saying I want to do it. But if he wants me to, I will.”
Under former head coach Mike Tomlin, veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger never saw the field in the preseason. This was true of some other top players like T.J. Watt and Antonio Brown. However, with a new system in place, McCarthy recognizes it is imperative for Rodgers to get in those invaluable live reps with all these new faces, all of which are playing in a brand new scheme.
