The Minnesota Vikings didn't return to the playoffs in 2025. After going 14-3 in 2024, Sam Darnold left via free agency, signing with the Seattle Seahawks. As we all know, the Seahawks not only made the playoffs in 2025 but also won the Super Bowl.
Aaron Jones joined Night Cap, hosted by Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson, and shared his thoughts on the Vikings' willingness to move off of Darnold.
"I felt like we had everything we needed [last year]," Jones said, "but we are not GMs. That’s outside of us....
"When you [have] a group of guys behind a quarterback, and he wants to stay somewhere, I think you should try to make it work."
Jones' comments aren't surprising, especially after J.J. McCarthy struggled in his first season as a starter in 2025. Even though Darnold had his first success in the NFL in Year 7, he was a veteran and fit in with a team made up of veterans.
Now, the Vikings are tasked with bringing in a quarterback in 2026 to compete with McCarthy for the starting job. Meanwhile, the Seahawks will be celebrating their latest Super Bowl win while trying to rework Darnold's contract.
