Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats are still trying to find the final pieces to fill the roster for the 2026-27 season. A few options remained. They're sure to target Milan Momcilovic if he pulls out of the NBA draft. Another was recruit Ryan Hampton, a member of the 2027 class who was considering a reclassification to 2026.
As it turns out, the second option seems to be unlikely to happen.
Hampton spoke to Sam Lance of The Field of 68, and spoke about his plans, and, without saying it explicitly, said he was staying in the 2027 class. He talked about his upcoming plans and, in particular, talked about his senior season in high school.
A five-star wing, Hampton is ranked as the No. 6 overall player in his class by 247Sports. He has a number of suitors, but specifically mentioned Kentucky as a team who is in stead contact, with Mo Williams calling him weekly. The early favorite is LSU and coach Will Wade, who also recruited him at North Carolina State.
Hampton is a top player in 2027, and the Wildcats are sure to stay in contact. His decision to stay in 2027 is beneficial for Pope, as they weren't expected to land him if he reclassified. Now, they'll get more time to make an impression, and try to make him a Wildcat.
