The Eagles drafted Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, and the results were championship-worthy. Philadelphia was 2-2 entering the Week 5 bye last season, but lost one regular-season game after DeJean was inserted into the lineup in place of Avonte Maddox. The Eagles defeated the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59, and finished the year with both Mitchell and DeJean being finalists for the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Last summer, with James Bradberry and Darius Slay departing, DeJean was expected to have an even more critical role in Vic Fangio's defense this season, and he's spent the offseason working out with NFL Defensive Player of the Year Patrick Surtain. During the first day of Eagles training camp, star wide receiver A.J. Brown let it be known that he'll be taking the Iron Sharpens Iron approach with the versatile cornerback.
As a rookie, DeJean logged 51 tackles (38 solo) as a rookie, including 0.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and three fumble recoveries across 16 regular-season games in 2024. DeJean's biggest and best moment came in Super Bowl LIX against the Chiefs, when he picked off Patrick Mahomes for a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown on his birthday.
Fast forward six months, and Brown's Prophecy has come true. DeJean is an All-Pro and, without a doubt, the best Nickel cornerback in the world. Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and DeJean made the roster in their second seasons. Houston's Derek Stingley Jr. got 41 first-place votes to lead the voting at cornerback.
Following the announcement, A.J. Brown took to social media to congratulate DeJean on the honor.
The best slot cornerback in the NFL, DeJean, was labeled an All-Pro last summer by A.J. Brown. Cooper DeJean led all NFL slot CBs in PFF coverage grade (79.3), catch rate allowed (61.4%), passer rating allowed (55.4), and yards allowedper coverage snap (0.72) (min. 350 coverage snaps as a slot CB; min. 50 targets). DeJean has never allowed a passing TD as a slot CB.
