A captain's goal puts Arsenal 45 minutes away from UCL final

12 months ago, Bukayo Saka scored a late consolation as Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League to PSG at the semi-final stage.

Tonight, wearing the captain's armband, he has put them within 45 minutes of the final after the breaking the deadlock against Atlético de Madrid.



After a half that saw the Gunners struggle to break down Diego Simeone's well-drilled side, a lovely ball from Ben White set the opening goal in motion.

Viktor Gyökeres ran the channel to get onto it and lofted a ball into the box that eventually came to Leandro Trossard. The Belgian delayed before shooting at Jan Oblalk, who could only parry into the path of Saka to tap home and send the Emirates wild.


The 24-year-old has been the symbol of the Gunners' rebuild over the last several years and tonight could be their biggest and best night yet.

Can the stand-in skipper lead them to Budapest? The stats suggest so.
