76ers projected lineup with Jaylen Brown: How former Celtic fits in with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, others originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The 76ers took a major swing in the hopes of shoring up their title hopes on Wednesday, sending Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks to the Celtics in exchange for five-time All-Star Jaylen Brown.
At his best, Brown is one of the league’s finest talents, a scoring machine capable of powering a top-tier offense. He has his warts — there are questions about his viability as a true No. 1 option — but the ceiling is there, particularly with additional All-NBA talent on the roster.
With that, here’s a look at how Philadelphia’s roster is slated to look with Brown in its colors in 2026–27 and beyond.

Brown is the latest in a string of stars brought in to surround Embiid. He’ll be expected to handle the lion’s share of perimeter scoring alongside All-Star Tyrese Maxey and gifted youngster VJ Edgecombe.
Embiid’s health has proven unreliable in recent years, with the veteran playing in just 57 games over the past two seasons. Assuming Philadelphia attempts to manage Embiid’s workload during the regular season, Brown could help anchor the 76ers’ attack.
Brown’s acquisition should aid Philadelphia as it attempts to compete in a talent-laden Eastern Conference in 2026–27 and beyond.

76ers projected starting five
Here's a glance at how the 76ers starting lineup could look to begin the season:
- Tyrese Maxey
- VJ Edgecombe
- Jaylen Brown
- Dean Wade
- Joel Embiid
At first glance, the new-look roster looks well-equipped to compete at the upper end of the Eastern Conference. For all of his detractors, Brown is an All-NBA-caliber talent who spearheaded the Celtics to 56 wins last year. He joins a roster that should be peaking, with Maxey and Edgecombe still yet to reach their primes.
Philadelphia should be a playoff team. Nurse’s side endured a dour campaign in terms of health and performance, with Embiid and George combining to appear in just 75 games. Despite their toils, the 76ers still went on to win 45 games. Brown, Maxey, Edgecombe, and Embiid have the makings of a 50-win group, while newcomer Dean Wade is a dogged defender and steady offensive talent who should help knit things together. The supporting cast outside of those five is a bit more murky, although it’s not implausible to see Philadelphia round out its bench with some high-quality mid-level exception pieces.
Still, if there’s anything the last few years have taught us, it’s that parity reigns supreme. The 76ers will feel that they have enough talent within their ranks to compete at the top of their conference. That could be enough to hoist a title when the dust settles.
