This week, it was revealed that Texas A&M star junior wide receiver Mario Craver was the lone Phil Steele All-America Second Team selection after reeling in 59 receptions for 917 yards and four touchdowns during his first season in College Station, quickly becoming a favorite target for quarterback Marcel Reed, who is back under center for his second full starting season.
This offseason, third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff added 17 players from the transfer portal months before a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, including star WR KC Concecpcion, going 24th overall to the Cleveland Browns. While the 2026 roster will look different, in combination with Reed and Craver, Elko welcomed back several key starters on both sides of the ball.
Other returning names include starting safeties Dalton Brooks and Marcus Ratcliffe, cornerback Dezz Ricks, defensive tackle DJ Hicks, and linebacker Daymion Sanford, who will likely miss the first half of the season after suffering a lower-body injury during the Maroon & White Game.
Overall, paired with the new additions, Texas A&M's 2026 roster is talented and deep enough to win ten or more games and make it back to the College Football Playoff, but if Marcel Reed takes a step back and the defense does not live up to its lofty preseason expectations, missing the postseason won't be a surprise.
On Friday, Phil Steeles' SEC All-America Teams were announced, as six Aggie starters made the four-team cut, with Mario Craver coming in as the lone 1st Team recipient. Still underrated, Marcel Reed made the 4th team, joining Dalton Brooks, and transfer long snapper Shea Freibaum, while wide receiver Terry Bussey made the 2nd team as a kick returner, and senior center Mark Nabou earned a 3rd team selection.
While Alabama transfer WR Isaiah Horton and Northwestern transfer edge Anto Saka also deserve recognition, this is a fair list, especially for Marcel Reed, who, even after throwing for a career-high 3,169 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions last season, has plenty to prove this fall.
