Eric Schmitt's day job is a United States Senator from Missouri.

But away from Capitol Hill, Schmitt is apparently quite the outfielder. He showed off that skill on Wednesday at the Congressional Baseball Game.

Yes, for the uninitiated, that's very much a thing.

Schmitt was playing left field for the Republican team, and a fly ball down the left field line looked like trouble.

But then there came Schmitt, a right-hander, extending in a full dive with his left arm outstretched and hauling the ball in.

Schmitt didn't come away unscathed -- he opened up a bleeder on his nose.

The catch certainly outweighed the damage:

This was the highlight of a dominant day for the Republicans, who beat the Democrats by an 11-2 score at Nationals Park.

Greg Steube (R-Fla.) threw a complete game on the mound for the victory. He had Schmitt to thank for one of his outs.

Schmitt was also on base multiple times and scored a run, according to The Hill.

It makes sense that Schmitt could do this, because he played college baseball and football at Truman State University in Missouri.
