The Denver Broncos had a "warm-down" after Monday's practice, with a post-practice stretch. That's not typical.
"Gotta get a handle on some of the soft tissues," coach Sean Payton said after the session. "We've had a couple either strains, hamstrings or groins. [We] continue to fight through that."
Payton doesn't think the soft-tissue injuries are related to the heat as much as pre-practice routine and hydration.
Denver running back J.K. Dobbins joined the team's growing injury list on Monday when he walked off the practice field about midway through the session. Payton said after practice that Dobbins has a soft-tissue injury, and he expects the running back to be fine.
Here are five other quick takeaways from Monday's practice.

Broncos injury report: Cornerback Pat Surtain (unknown), wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (strain), center Luke Wattenberg (undisclosed), receiver Marvin Mims (unknown), tight end Nate Adkins (undisclosed) and safety Devon Key (unknown) were among the players who worked on a side field on Monday. In addition to Dobbins, receiver Michael Bandy also left practice early with trainers. It's unclear if Surtain and Key were given rest days or if they're also rehabbing. Broncos receiver Courtland Sutton had three straight veteran rest days last week.
2. Broncos mascot happenings: Miles, the team's mascot in costume, was elected to the Mascot Hall of Fame's class of 2026 over the weekend. He is just the sixth NFL mascot to earn that honor. On the live mascot front, Thunder and the horse's handlers — the Thunder Spirit team — are retiring. "On behalf of our organization and all of Broncos Country, we thank Sharon Magness Blake and Ernie Blake, Ann Judge and the entire Thunder Spirit team for their extraordinary contributions to the Denver Broncos," read part of a statement from owner Carrie Walton Penner. The live mascot tradition will continue with a new Thunder squad in 2026.
3. Denver CB Brent Austin continues to impress: Austin has been repeatedly mentioned as a camp standout, and that trend continued on Monday. The undrafted cornerback is competing for a spot in an extremely crowded secondary, so he still faces an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster. At worst, Austin should be well-positioned to be a priority practice squad signing after roster cuts.
4. No word yet on Bo Nix's preseason debut: Nix seems to be completely healthy after returning from a broken ankle in January, but the club's preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons will be played on turf at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Friday. Payton indicated after Monday's practice that at least some starters will play on Friday, but he indicated the plan for Nix's preseason has not yet been finalized. Nix later noted that he's looking forward to preseason action, but he has "no idea" if he will play on Friday.
5. Davis Webb expected to call plays from sideline: When he spoke to media members on Saturday, Webb indicated that he will likely call plays from the sideline (as opposed to from the booth). Payton confirmed that on Monday, first in his post-practice podium session, and again during an interview with FanDuel TV’s Kay Adams. Nix prefers it that way. "I like when the play caller's there with me and I can come off (the field) and have the eye-to-eye conversation," Nix said.
Denver's scheduled to practice again on Tuesday and Wednesday (closed to fans) before traveling to Georgia on Thursday ahead of Friday's preseason opener. Live-game action is just days away for the Broncos.
