Southern California men's basketball commit Alijah Arenas was released from the hospital on Wednesday, less than one week after a serious car accident, according to Shams Charania of ESPN.
Arenas, the son of former three-time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas, is now "resting comfortably" and "under close watch" following the single-car crash near Los Angeles, California. The family said in a statement that Alijah Arenas is in "high spirits."
The 18-year-old crashed his Tesla Cybertruck into a tree and a fire hydrant after he lost control of the vehicle while driving back from the gym around 4:55 a.m. on April 24. He was removed from the car by two nearby individuals as it caught on fire, a video obtained by TMZ showed.
Alijah Arenas was placed in a medically-induced coma following the accident due to the crash and smoke inhalation. Gilbert Arenas said in a statement that his son did not suffer any "major injuries" after he was taken out of the coma on Friday.
The high-school star is the No. 10 overall prospect and the top-ranked shooting guard in the class of 2025 out of Chatsworth High School in Los Angeles, according to 247Sports. He committed to the Trojans in January over Alabama, Kansas, Kentucky and UCLA, among others.
