Few teams suffered worse injury luck this season than the San Francisco 49ers. They saw so many key players suffer significant injuries that it only made sense for fans to look for answers.
But one conspiracy seemed to gain enough traction that even the 49ers admitted they were looking into it.
A couple weeks ago, a thread went viral on Twitter/X that linked low-frequency electromagnetic fields to soft-tissue injuries. And it specifically called out the electrical substation that sits adjacent to Levi's Stadium and the team's practice fields in Santa Clara.
Now, there is zero medical and scientific evidence to back up the theory. In fact, experts in the field have called it complete pseudoscience nonsense. The Niners have practiced near the substation since 1988 and have won three Super Bowls since.
But during Wednesday's press conference, John Lynch was asked about the theory. He admitted that the team is at least looking into it out of an abundance of caution.
It doesn't hurt to bring in experts for due diligence, but I mean, Lynch has to know that there's nothing to it.
The real answer almost certainly lies in the fact that football is a violent game that leads to injuries.
