With the start of the new league year right around the corner, the San Francisco 49ers were slated to lose all three of their specialists, with Thomas Morstead, Eddy Pineiro and Jon Weeks all hitting free agency in 2026.
However, the 49ers have acted swiftly to bring one of them back before they reached the markest, as 49ers general manager John Lynch shared that the team has extended Weeks.
Weeks, 40, spent the first 15 seasons of his NFL career with the Houston Texans, making one Pro Bowl. He signed with the 49ers last offseason on a one-year deal and made the Pro Bowl for just the second time.
The details of the deal are unknown at this point, and San Francisco still has to figure out who Weeks will be snapping to, but this is a good move to keep some continuity on special teams.
