The Seahawks are replacing former offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, an ex-San Francisco 49ers assistant coach, with a 49ers assistant.

Seattle is reportedly hiring run game coordinator and tight ends coach Brian Fleury, 46, as their offensive play-caller after Kubiak became the Raiders' head coach last week following the Seahawks' 29-13 win over the Patriots in Super Bowl LX. With Fleury, who has spent the past seven seasons with the 49ers under head coach Kyle Shanahan, the Seahawks will keep the so-called Shanahan offensive system in which quarterback Sam Darnold thrived in 2025 in Kubiak's lone season in Seattle.

Fleury is one of three former 49ers assistants under Shanahan who will serve as an offensive coordinator in 2026, joining Mike McDaniel (Chargers) and Bobby Slowik (Dolphins).

Fleury played a role in game-planning for the 49ers and was among the coaches who assisted with play-calling during games. Last month, Shanahan explained that offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak, offensive line coach Chris Foerster and Fleury serve as in-game sounding boards and offer suggestions.

"Those are the guys I rely on through play-calling throughout the game," Shanahan said. "It's not like I'm just in silence there calling every play. I'm discussing it with the guys we've prepared with in the week."

Fleury was given the title of run game coordinator last year, which was his latest promotion after he joined the 49ers as a defensive quality control coach in 2019. Fleury served as an offensive quality control coach (2020-21) before he spent the past four seasons coaching tight ends.

Fleury's departure was preceded this offseason by the loss of defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, who became the Titans' head coach. In addition, defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Daniel Bullocks was hired by the Packers. The 49ers have not announced a replacement for Bullocks, or any other possible changes to their coaching staff.
