San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was involved in a car accident last week in Northern California, where he suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the team said in a statement Saturday.
Shanahan will participate in team activities on a limited basis at the start of training camp while he recovers, the 49ers said.
Shanahan collided with an SUV on July 14, where he broke his nose and three ribs, one of his hands, and needed over 40 stitches to his face, sources familiar with the situation told ESPN.

He was transported to a local hospital before being released later in the day, the Pao Alto Police Department said in a statement.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, Palo Alto police said.
John Lynch, the 49ers general manager, told reporters Saturday that Shanahan suffered a concussion in the car accident and that he has had lingering effects. He's being cared for and monitored by 49ers health personnel.
Lynch said he had high hopes and optimism, and assured that Shanahan is "doing good."
The 49ers training camp is slated to begin on Sunday.
