The San Francisco 49ers are once again dealing with new injury issues entering their vital Week 18 matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

In a bit of good news, tight end George Kittle was back in practice after missing all three sessions before Week 17 and then missing the game. He's dealing with an ankle injury he suffered back in Week 16. The 49ers listed him as questionable for the game, but head coach Kyle Shanahan indicated Kittle was never able to test out the injury. His limited participation in practice would typically be a sign that injury is trending in the right direction, but Shanahan tamped down on the optimism.

"I wouldn’t assume that," Shanahan said when asked if Kittle's return was a sign of his improvement. "We're barely moving today. It's a walk-through with the short week that we’ve got, so we won't be doing much all week."

Beyond that, a trio of key starters were on the sidelines for the session including Trent Williams, Christian McCaffrey and Kyle Juszczyk.

There's a chance the 49ers are simply being cautious on a short week and they're not going to rush veterans into action. Tuesday's practice was the first of three for the week, so Wednesday and Thursday will give us a better idea of which direction those players are trending going into Saturday.

Here's the full first practice report for Week 18.
