The Charlotte Hornets could be parting ways with their franchise player. According to The Stein Line's Jake Fischer, the Hornets are "actively fielding offers" for LaMelo Ball, a 2021-22 All-Star who recently guided Charlotte to the Play-In Tournament.
Charlotte improved from 19-63 to 44-38 under second-year coach Charles Lee. Ball's numbers dipped slightly along the way, as first-round picks Kon Knueppel and Brandon Miller began to assert themselves more offensively. With Ball famously being a high-usage guard, perhaps Charlotte is looking to deal Ball to create even more opportunities for Knueppel and Miller to run the show.
Whatever the reason, Ball has plenty to offer whichever team acquires him. He's only 24, has averaged over 20 a game all but one of his six seasons, and is a career 36.5% 3-point shooter. Injuries are admittedly a concern, though, as Ball has missed over 170 games due to various ailments.
With trade rumors swirling around Ball, here are four trades NBA fans are suggesting on social media.
It's an intriguing package, but 2024 No. 1 pick Zaccharie Risacher doesn't move the needle enough for Charlotte.
Miller's upside is higher than Brown's, so Charlotte likely wouldn't do this without additional draft compensation.
At 30, Turner isn't the ideal age for a player to build around Charlotte's young core. And if Milwaukee tries to throw in Kyle Kuzma, this one is even more unrealistic.
Now this is intriguing. Charlotte gets a massive upgrade on the wing along with a more than capable guard in Ayo Dosunmu. The deal may be enough as is, but Charlotte would surely like to flip one of those second-rounders into a first-round pick or a first-round pick swap.
