Denver Broncos general manager George Paton has been busy locking up the team's core players over the last two years.

Since 2024, the Broncos have given contract extensions to 11 key players, solidifying a roster that helped the team reach the AFC Championship game last season. So, who's next?

Denver has 20 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents in 2027, including four crucial starters. These players could be next in line to receive contract extensions from the Broncos.

Broncos contract extension candidates

1. CB Riley Moss: After undergoing core muscle surgery and struggling to break through in his rookie season, Moss emerged as a full-time starter in 2024, and he held that same role last fall, starting across from Pat Surtain. Moss is now entering the final year of his rookie contract. If Denver has confidence in Jahdae Barron, Moss could be a trade candidate if the Broncos do not plan to re-sign him in 2027. Otherwise, he'll need an extension.

2. WR Marvin Mims: A two-time All-Pro and two-time Pro Bowler as a returner, Mims quietly totaled 1,510 all-purpose yards last season, a new career high. Fans in Denver have wanted to see Mims more involved on offense, but his role seems unlikely to increase following the arrival of Jaylen Waddle. Mims is still an elite returner, though, and he's a dynamic weapon on offense when given opportunities. The Broncos should attempt to re-sign him.

3. CB Ja'Quan McMillian: After signing his one-year, restricted free agent tender, McMillian is scheduled to earn $5.767 million in 2026 before hitting unrestricted free agency in 2027. He'd like to sign a multi-year extension. Once again, the team's vision for Barron could be a factor. If Denver views Barron as the best long-term option in the slot, giving McMillian an extension would become less of a priority.

4. S Brandon Jones: Set to turn 28 next month, Jones still has plenty of gas left in the tank, but he's entering the final season of the three-year deal he signed with the Broncos in 2024. Unless the team plans to select his replacement early in the NFL draft, Jones should be an extension candidate.

Following the 2026 season, NFL free agency will begin in March 2027. Any in-house free agents who do not receive extensions from Denver will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs next spring.
