here is the premise:

players that aren't "top ranked" guys -- so conceivably 3rd round or later

players at a position that the Cardinals need ( are there any that aren't?)

you have seen them play

list any you have -- and given all the college football on tv over the next few days -- give us your sleepers--

the few that spring to mind:

Stanley Havili, FB, USC-- a little undersized at 230 lbs, but boy can he catch the ball out of the backfield. A willing blocker and figures to be a great special teams player.

Owen Maricec, FB Stanford- more of the straight line lead blocker and bigger at 245 or so. Also played linebacker, so again, figures to be a great special teamer.

Casey Matthews, ILB, Oregon -- an inside physical thumper. Not sure he plays on passing downs.

I will have a few more later

Kyle Glazier from Western Illinois U. He is an inside linebacker that is undersized but he is a tackling machine. He had 2 games with over 20 tackles in each game this year. He has a real nose for the ball. An academic all conference player also. Bring him in as a undrafted free agent.

Tyler Sash is a db from Iowa. Looks to be a very good ball hawk. Good selection for the later rounds.

Delone Carter,... RB, Syracuse.........three consecutive seasons over 1000 yds,...only 5'9" but so was Emmit....has good vision, but not elite power or speed, maybe a slight project at the pro level, but ya never know. Extra competition for our backs is always good.

Luke Stocker, TE Tennessee- might be a low 2nd rounder. 6-4, 250 catches the ball with hands and a good blocker.

here are some who will be 3-7th rounders that I would love the Cardinals to look at.

DT/DE - Mahammad Wilderson, Temple, 6-5, 302, 5.05
CB - Cortez Allen, Citadel, 6-2, 190, 4.45
SILB - Alex Wujciak, Maryland, 6-2, 250, 4.78
CB - Curtis Marsh, Utah St., 6-0, 193, 4.44
OC - Tim Barns, Missouri, 6-4, 300, 5.14
OC - Brandon Fusco, Slippery Rock, 6-4,300, 5.24
RT/RG - Clint Boling, Georgia, 6-5, 305, 5.16

Love this kid. He probably won't be there in round 3 though.

I think he made himself some money tonight

I don't think he will run a fast 40 at the combine, so we will see

I am betting he runs in the low 4.7 range...Heap was a high 4.6 guy and was drafted the end of round 1. His game tape will sell him more than his workouts IMO.

He runs that, and he might sneak into the bottom of rd 1

Maybe because he is a solid run blocker, he has the rep of a slow, possession type TE.

I agree about our need to devote more attention to players rated Round 3 or later.

I keep thinking about a larger-than-expected number of guys we never heard of prior to their being drafted - who are contributing to the success of a number of winning NFL teams.

Who ever heard of Pierre Garcon prior to his draft?

Antonio Gates was essentially a basketball player.

Logan Mankins was considered a big, ol' farm boy.

The Loadholdt dude (considered big, strong, dumb and clumsy) is a starter at (I believe) left tackle.

Athlon consideres DT Terrance Knighton (Who?) of the Jags a preseason favorite to be All AFC.

Danny Amendola is the Rams' leading receiver.

The Pats drafted TE Aaron Hernandez in the 4th round.

I don't recall Umenyoria or Tuck being household words at the top of most draft boards.

Actually, the Cardinals are pretty good at plucking players with good potential in the later rounds (Toler, Skelton, Komer, Steven Williams, LSH, AJ Jefferson),but we still need to do better if we're to keep up with teams like Indy and NE in identifying and developing talent. What keeps me up at night is wondering: "Why can't we come up with more Greg Tolers?"

Raises a pretty dicey question: "Do we all over-estimate the value of players drafted in the early rounds at the expense of those available later?"

Secondary question - "When a team (like Indy or NE) is especially good at drafting in the later rounds, how much is it helped both from the standpoint of overall roster-talent and what it can do under the cap?"

I'm thinking that we fans (& the guys on the Cardinals who determine payroll) should be extra specially nice to the lower-profile guys in our scouting dept. who take the time to drive late at night through rain storms to attend workouts of obscure guys you never heard of from places like St. Paul College.

Ah yes-----DRC may be finally getting the point. He got thrown at much more than he thought, because Toler was a harder Corner to attack than DRC was. You can't live off your accolades in this league. You either perform, or you are made to pay for your inatention to your duties. While a gold grill, and a three Escalade Possee will impress some fans, it will deter no one who shows up wearing NFL pads on Sunday.

I do like this guy for the third round. Good all around player. Does everything well.

Some under the radar guys that have impressed me so far this bowl season:
1)Moffit: the OG from Wisky. I want him on the Cards badly in round 4. He moves his guy any direction he wants every play.
2) Greg McElroy: the QB from Bama has always impressed me and I don't understand why he isn't ranked higher. He's smart, makes all the throws, and is a winner. He'd be a good late round QB to pickup.
3) The RB from UNC, Dramond may be his name. That guy showed explosiveness, speed, and good vision. He was supposedly 3rd string. I'd like to see the 2 in front of him.
4) A TE I like even though they stunk it up today is Gant from MSU. He's a adequate receiver and a very good blocker.

A guy who i was kind of disappointed with today was Dontae Hightower. He was fine in the middle, which was good, but he seemed to lack speed to the sidelines. I'm not sure he'e back to 100% healthy.

how about Andy Dalton, QB of TCU

good size, athletic and a winner. Runs the spread, so obviously his stats will be inflated -- BUT -- the offense at TCU can be complex in the passing game. Dalton has managed it really well.

Seems like the kind of guy you draft in the 5th or 6th round and see how he develops

I don't think he stands a chance, he always seems to make 1 bad throw each game. Nothing in Dalton's game stands out to me & I've watched every game he's played for 2 years, he's a caretaker of TCU's offense & not a differance maker. The QB I like mucho more is Tulsa's GJ Kinnie, though he probably won't come out until next year. Kinnie is a gunslinger who can run & make all the throws.

Another fullback: Anthony Sherman of UConn

5-10, 245. Good hands and some nifty feet. Nice lead blocker as well
