Just in time for America's 250th birthday — and just a few miles away from Washington's Headquarters in Revolutionary Morristown — Topgolf debuted its newest entertainment complex in Parsippany, New Jersey, on July 2, loaded with new "prototype" technology to enhance its games, targets and golfing bays.

The Parsippany location, which officially opened Friday, is Topgolf's 102nd venue and the first to offer "a new prototype featuring Topgolf’s legendary golf games plus new entertainment and technology enhancements that include arcade games, a reimagined outfield targets and slope," the company stated in its opening announcement.

The venue was packed with customers during a grand opening ceremony on Thursday as state Sen. Joseph Pennacchio proclaimed its opening night as "a benchmark in the future of Parsippany." A developer paid $10.5 million for the property and four office buildings that were razed last year. The $30 million Topgolf project broke ground in June 2025, promising to bring 400 new jobs to town.

"Thank you for putting 400 people to work here," Pennacchio said as he presented a proclamation from the state Legislature. "Thank you for the people who were required to build this."

Food, drink, 'all the gizmos'

Topgolf CEO David McKillips was eager to discuss the latest bells and whistles installed in Parsippany, "The first Topgolf of its kind."

"This is our Topgolf 2.0," he said. "This one of the first locations to have a sunken outfield, so that first-floor experience is as good as the second or third."

Golfers can drive balls from the three-story, 67,500-square-foot facility that features a multi-tier driving range with 102 bays. Serious golfers will enjoy advanced tracking technology for their shots. Novices may prefer to engage in interactive games, suitable for all ages and skill levels, aiming for huge targets on the field.

Parsippany will also debut a new “My Bay, My Way,” offering, where guests can personalize their bay experience from their phone, including food orders, TV access and recording game highlights. Zach Epstein, 19, came with a group of friends to give the new Topgolf a try.

"This one has all the new stuff," Epstein said as his friends relaxed in cushioned chairs, sipping beverages and snacking on nachos. "It's all flashy, all the gizmos. They're really impressive."

For those who don't care to swing, the climate-controlled bays typically include two tees, lounge seating for six and HD televisions, with available food and drink service. There are a total of 250 TV screens in the complex. Elsewhere, non-golfers can enjoy a full-service restaurant and bar, a private event space, an outdoor patio and a rooftop terrace.

All eligible guests who book and complete a one or two-bay reservation between July 3 and July 17 will be automatically entered for a chance to win one free year of game play. Full details are available at the Topgolf Parsippany website.

Driving redevelopment

Topgolf was welcomed to Parsippany by local leaders eager to replace a glut of vacant office buildings in one of New Jersey's largest office markets. More than a dozen office buildings — some of which served as headquarters for Fortune 500 companies — have already been razed in Morris County's largest municipality. In their place are a mix of mostly warehouses and residential buildings that are helping to satisfy the town's state-mandated affordable housing obligation.

Parsippany, at the crossroads of interstates 80 and 287, once boasted of 12 million square feet of office space, second only to Newark in the state. A quarter of that space has been demolished in recent years. Earlier this year, locals were taken aback by the installation of 180-foot-high poles on the edge of Route 46 to hold the netting that prevents golf balls from reaching the highway, about 200 yards away.

"That's where the mothership is landing," reads one of hundreds of comments responding to a social media photo of the construction site, posted without comment.
