The Devils' Advocate podcast co-host Gaz Drinkwater says Michael Carrick's tactical approach in Saturday's win over Manchester City showed that some of the decisions taken by previous boss Ruben Amorim were "ridiculous".
"There were massive calls from Carrick, both in his starting XI and throughout the game," Drinkwater said on this week's episode.
"Carrick dropped Matheus Cunha and brought Harry Maguire in. Patrick Dorgu as a winger again was a big question mark I had pre-match.
"Bryan Mbeumo was the number nine and not playing a proper recognised striker was a massive call, but it paid off incredibly well.
"It was perfect.
"He has delivered, in two or three days, the best Manchester United performance I think I have seen in 10 years.
"We played against a team who are going for the title and who are, on paper, much better than United, and we absolutely dominated them. Don't let the scoreline fool you.
"Saturday gave me complete clarity over some of the decisions Ruben Amorim made this season. Bringing Bruno Fernandes - the best creative midfielder in this league - into a deeper position, not playing a generational talent in Kobbie Mainoo, playing a back three and not playing wingers at Manchester United is ridiculous.
"The decision to sack Amorim could have potentially saved Mainoo. And not only that, but also saved the culture that is Manchester United."
