A college wrestler has died following a tragic motorcycle accident over the weekend.

Jesse Orbin Jr., who was a student at Waynesburg University in Waynesburg, Penn., died in the accident, the university confirmed in a statement on Monday, June 15.

"The Waynesburg University community is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of our student athletes," the university said in a statement. "Jessie Orbin will be greatly missed. We are sending prayers for God to lift up and comfort his family at this difficult time."

Orbin served as the team captain of the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets' wrestling team for the 2025-26 season, according to the statement. He was twice named Waynesburg University Male Athlete of the Year at the annual WUESPY awards, and often spent time with the Waynesburg University football team.

During his tenure as captain, he led the team in total wins, pins, technical falls and major decisions, according to the university. His undefeated 11-0 record from winter 2025 in dual matches gave him a 38-bout win streak in dual competition that "stretches back to early in his freshman campaign," the university shared.

A GoFundMe fundraiser started by Niki Presto was created to help his family amid his funeral arrangements. Orbin died on Sunday, June 14, in the motorcycle accident after sustaining "a severe brain injury that was not survivable, leaving his family, friends, and community heartbroken."

The fundraiser description said that "the impact he made on those around him was extraordinary," saluting his "kind and generous heart."

"He was the type of person who would give someone the shirt off his back without hesitation," the fundraiser description read. "He often put others before himself, including his siblings, whom he adored."

Aside from his athleticism, he followed in his father's footsteps by working as a groom at The Meadows, a harness horse racing community in Meadow Lands, Penn., per the GoFundMe.

"One story that perfectly captures who Jessie was: he once went without buying himself a Lovie's Ice Cream treat because he only had enough money to make sure his younger siblings could enjoy one," the fundraiser description said of Orbin.

The description shared that he had "worked hard" and "was incredibly excited" about the motorcycle he had purchased before the crash that ended his life.

As of publication, the fundraiser has raised over $37,000.
