Perry got the ball rolling for the Oilers with his second period powerplay goal. That made the game 2-1.

“He’s just elite,” Draisaitl said. “He’s nearly 40 years old and he has an impact on every single game, it’s incredible.”

'A Special Talent': Messier Shows Love To Oilers' Leon DraisaitlEDMONTON – “It’s pretty much impossible to shut them down one-on-one.”
“He’s one of the smartest hockey players I’ve ever seen, he’s so unique in the way he thinks and plays the game.”

Perry is always mixing things up with an opposing player, or sitting on Darcy Kuemper’s head after falling on him for a second (or two) longer than their teammates would like.

“I honestly think he could play till he’s 50 because of his brain,” Draisaitl states. “We’ll see if the boots keep up there.”

Draisaitl then spoke about what makes Perry successful on whatever line he plays on.

“He just reads the play before it happens,” Draisaitl revealed. “He knows exactly how to maneuver himself into situations to be successful. He plays on the fourth line, he’s successful. He plays with Connor and I, he’s successful.”

“Those guys are hard to come by.”

Draisaitl isn’t the only one who thinks highly of the grizzled veteran.

Connor McDavid's Admiration For Corey Perry

Connor McDavid shared his own admiration for Perry when he was asked about him after the game on Sunday night.

“He’s been doing it forever, he just never stops,” McDavid said. “It’s unbelievable, (it’s) impressive to see.”

Perry finished the game with one goal, four shots, and four hits in 20:18 of playing time.

“(He) wins battles. Rangy, great hands, smart. Can’t say enough good things about him.”
