KEY TAKEAWAYS:

  • Rishabh Pant gifted Yuvraj Singh a golf club to thank him for his mentorship.
  • Yuvraj jokingly called out other mentees like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma for not reciprocating.
  • However, Pant has struggled in IPL 2026, averaging 25.50 across nine innings for LSG.

Rishabh Pant's golf club gift to Yuvraj goes viral as mentor playfully shames Gill & Abhishek

Yuvraj Singh shared a video on social media, opening a gift pack sent by Lucknow Super Giants' skipper Rishabh Pant, which was a golf club.

The club came with a note written on the golf bag that read: "Dear Yuvi paaji, thank you for your support and guidance. See you on the golf course. Love RP."

Having endured a below-par previous season and then finding himself left out of India's T20 World Cup squad, Pant's standing in white-ball cricket had taken a visible knock. Determined to arrest the slide, he reached out to Yuvraj, for support ahead of the tournament.

Yuvraj worked alongside Pant during practice sessions, with the focus resting almost entirely on the mental side of the game: rebuilding self-belief, sharpening decision-making, and restoring the fearlessness that once defined Pant's batting.

As a way of showing his appreciation, Pant presented Yuvraj with the golf club.

The delight on his face was obvious. But it was what came next that captured everyone's attention. Turning to address his other mentees, Abhishek Sharma, Shubman Gill, Prabhsimran Singh, Naman Dhir, Abdul Samad, and Priyansh Arya, Yuvraj told them, with a grin, to "sharam karo".

Rishabh Pant struggling for runs with LSG

Pant has not found his best form in IPL 2026, and the numbers reflect it. Across nine innings, he has accumulated 204 runs at an average of 25.50, with a strike rate of 128.30.

For a batter whose currency has always been aggression and the ability to turn matches on their head, those figures represent a significant underperformance.

He has managed just 19 fours and seven sixes all season, with a solitary half-century to show for his efforts. There have been moments of promise, but converting starts into substantial scores has eluded him.

His side, Lucknow Super Giants, sit at the foot of the points table with only two wins from nine games, effectively on the edge of elimination.

The Cricket News Opinion: Pant's best cricket is still ahead of him

The mentorship from Yuvraj clearly came from a place of genuine concern, and the work they did together was real. But rebuilding form and confidence takes time, and Pant is still in the middle of that process. His talent is beyond question, anyone who has watched him at his peak knows what he is capable of. Once the rhythm returns, and it will, the numbers will follow.
