Virat Kohli has hit out at his critics, who questioned his commitment to the Indian cricket team in the past. Kohli announced his retirement from the Test format less than a year after he quit T20Is.
The 37-year-old, however, continues to play for the Indian team in ODI cricket and had displayed sublime form in the three ODI series, the Men in Blue played last year against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Ever since Kohli announced his retirement from Tests, questions have been raised on his future in international cricket. BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar raised doubts on whether Kohli, along with Rohit Sharma, who also retired from Test cricket last year, would be available for selection for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Now, Kohli, without mentioning any names has slammed his criticis, as he told RCB media, "Look, if you go to a workplace and people say they believe in your abilities and then a week later they start questioning the way you operate… why? Either tell me on day one that I’m not good enough or if you truly believe in me then just be quiet. If you start operating up and down because of results, you can never have a consistent stance. And I am not someone who behaves like that. When I come to play, I know what I can deliver in terms of effort. Performance, no one can guarantee."
While Kohli did not explicitly name Agarkar or India head coach Gautam Gambhir, several fans on the internet felt that his statement might have been a subtle dig at the management.

Kohli also opened up on his future and his ambition of playing another World Cup for the Indian team, while expressing his frustration over the same questions that have been raised time and again.
He told RCB media, "This 27 chat, for me it's like, we are mid 26 now, I have been asked so many times - do you want to play 27, Why would I leave my home, get the stuff over - of course, if I am playing, I want to play cricket - I want to carry on, playing for India in the World Cup is amazing."
Kohli has made it crystal clear that his goal at the moment is to represent the Indian team at the World Cup, which would be his fifth appearance at the global ICC competition.
