Jordynn Parnell did the unimaginable on Thursday night in South View softball's win over previously-undefeated United 8 leader Gray's Creek.
She posted 15 strikeouts and set a new career strikeouts record (513) to sit atop the Tigers' all-time list — over 2012 graduate April Costas — in just three seasons.
After the win, head coach Phil Dean, who's been at the helm for eight years at Eddie Dees Field, was in awe of his star pitcher's performance and had ravishing things to say about what she means to the program.

After being asked about Parnell's impact on the Tigers' program, the first reaction Phil Dean had was "Oh man," with a sigh of contentment coming behind the expression.
"I tell people all the time, I wish I had 15 Jordynns on my team," Dean praised. "Her work ethic is second to none; she loves the game; she loves to compete; and that carries over to the other girls."
"She's one of those once-in-a-lifetime players that a coach gets — we've had some really good players here in my 20 years at South View and my eight years as softball coach, but she's one of the elites of this program, and we still have her for one more year," Dean said.
When a team has a power-pitching talent like Parnell, all a coach needs is a solid fielding core to fill in the spaces, and coming into this season, that was a key coaching goal for Dean and staff — putting the pieces together to compliment Parnell's pitching.
"We knew we had a good core coming back this year after losing key fielders like Savanna Delp and Taylor Parnell, but we knew we would have the pieces in place to be good. And of course, with Jordynn in the circle, it's a plus," Dean said.
But mainly, making sure Parnell had backup pitching in place for nights when arm rest was needed to make the defense complete for the Tigers.
"The biggest thing is that she's only started in eight games this year, so we wanted her to be able to rest some, but for her to have 139 strikeouts already this year, and with her having another year, she might set a record that can never be broken — unless we get another Jordynn Parnell," Dean said.
