New RCB owner Kumar Mangalam Birla eyes hat-trick of IPL titles after winning two trophies in a row
Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the third team in IPL history, after Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, to win back-to-back titles as they beat Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets to win the IPL 2026 Trophy on Sunday in Ahmedabad.
Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 75 and led from the front as RCB scripted history at the Narendra Modi Stadium. A trophy that eluded RCB for 18 years has now entered their cabinet for two seasons in a row, showing the dominance the current RCB unit has displayed.
New RCB owner and Aditya Birla Group chairman, Kumar Mangalam Birla, was present at the Narendra Modi Stadium to witness Rajat Patidar's side create history.
At the end of the game, Kumar Mangalam Birla interacted with the media and remained hopeful that RCB would aim to win a hat-trick of titles next season. He said: "It's a great team. It's a team that works seamlessly together. It is very rare to see a team that is so bonded."
When asked about completing a three-peat, he added, "I think so."
When RCB star Tim David was asked the same question immediatelt after the game, the Australian replied, "Why not?"

The Cricket News Opinion: Virat Kohli prime architect behind RCB's success
On a Sunday evening, Indian cricket stalwart Virat Kohli walked out and did what he has done on the grandest stages of the game for the better part of the last two decades. The 'Chase Master' as he is fondly known, scored an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls and steered RCB to a five-wicket victory over GT with 12 balls to spare.
Even at 37, Kohli continues to remain RCB's star performer and is the key architect behind the franchise's success in the last two seasons.
