The University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers introduced former Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball head coach Wes Miller on March 25 as their new head coach.
"I am like absolutely pumped up," Miller said. "Fired up, more than I've ever been to be the head coach at Charlotte. Like I could not be more excited."
"I'm home," Miller added. "I'll not get emotional, but I feel emotional because North Carolina's home. I'm 43 - 33 of my 43 years have been spent in this state. ... This is the hoop state. … We have the best basketball in this state, we have the best grassroots basketball in this state, and we have the best college basketball in this state. And when you leave this state, you wear that like a badge of honor."
Miller also talked about his former team at UC.
"I think we left the (Cincinnati) program in a much better place than we found it," Miller said. "It's ready to compete in the top third of that league year after year now, so I'm proud of that."
CBS Sports' Matt Norlander reported March 22 that former NC State coach Kevin Keatts and Duke assistant Emanuel Dildy also were considered for the position.
The Bearcats announced March 13 that they fired Miller less than five years after he was hired. The Bearcats introduced Jerrod Calhoun as their new head coach the same day that Charlotte introduced Miller.
