Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on Thursday that Detroit Red Wings star center Dylan Larkin has requested a trade. With this, Larkin is now one of the top names in the rumor mill and should generate a ton of interest around the league.

If the Red Wings do end up trading Larkin, they will need to decide which direction they want to go. The Red Wings extended their playoff drought to 10 years due to their poor play down the stretch this season. Could trading Larkin lead to a significant shake-up of their roster?

If the Red Wings do decide to kick off a retool, let’s take a look at three more players who Detroit could trade besides Larkin.

Alex DeBrincat, LW/RW

If the Red Wings move on from Larkin, Alex DeBrincat could be another trade candidate to keep an eye on this summer. The 28-year-old forward is entering the final season of his contract in 2026-27, and he would be a very valuable trade chip for the Red Wings to dangle if they decide to retool or even rebuild.

If extension talks do not go well between the Red Wings and DeBrincat this summer, they may have no choice but to listen to offers for him. Teams looking for a star sniper in their top six would pay a lot to land a player like DeBrincat. In 82 games this season, he had 41 goals and 85 points.

Justin Faulk, D

While the Red Wings acquired Justin Faulk at this year’s deadline, the possibility of Detroit trading him this off-season should not be ruled out if they decide to shake up their roster. Like DeBrincat, Faulk has one year left on his contract.

Teams looking for a top-four right-shot defenseman would likely pursue Faulk heavily if the Red Wings made him available for trade. The 34-year-old just had a strong year split between the St. Louis Blues and Red Wings, posting 16 goals and 40 points in 78 games.

Sebastian Cossa, G

Sebastian Cossa has been a popular name in the rumor mill since the Red Wings’ season ended. With Detroit having two more exciting goalie prospects in Trey Augustine and Michal Postava, it would not be particularly surprising if the Red Wings moved Cossa this off-season.

With Cossa being a former first-round pick with good upside, the Red Wings will need a significant offer to consider moving him. In 39 games this season for the Grand Rapids Griffins, he had a 26-8-4 record, a .915 save percentage, and a 2.33 goals-against average.
