On-field workouts begin at the NFL Combine on Thursday with the defensive lineman, EDGE rushers, and linebackers slated to perform first. Linebacker is especially a huge offseason position of need for the Las Vegas Raiders. An injection of youth and speed is badly required to help potentially replace pending free agents Jamal Adams, Elandon Roberts, and Devin White.
We've identified three linebacker prospects they should monitor closely during Thursday's NFL Combine workouts.
NFL scouts expect Cincinnati linebacker Jake Golday to really impress in the broad and vertical jump testing drills. Golday notched a career-high 104 tackles this past season after making the transition to off-ball linebacker from EDGE rusher two offseasons ago. He could be a Raiders target at No. 36 overall.
Pittsburgh linebacker Kyle Louis is undersized, but he flies around sideline to sideline with terrific range. Louis' fluidity and flexibility should be evident during testing drills and on-field positional workouts. If the Raiders want to address linebacker at No. 67, he should be among the options.
Bryce Boettcher was drafted by the Houston Astros of Major League Baseball. His eye discipline and ability to trigger downhill as a baseball outfielder is a shared skill set as a multi-sport athlete. Boettcher was at the Senior Bowl, so the Raiders have had multiple opportunities to watch him closely throughout this pre-draft process.
