RUSS CHANDLER STADIUM — A couple weeks after suffering a tough midweek loss at then #4 Auburn the #3 Georgia Tech Baseball Jackets dominated now #18 Auburn 13-3 behind home runs by Vahn Lackey, Carson Kerce, Ryan Zuckerman, and a mercy rule enforcing solo shot by Caleb Daniel. Tech converted nearly all of their runners in scoring position, leaving only one man on in the entire game scoring their 13 runs on 11 hits.
Cooper Underwood got the start before a line of relievers came in and collectively pitched eight innings between seven pitchers.
Beyond the diamond, Tech set the program midweek attendance record with 4,033 attendees. The 4k mark was reachable after 100 standing room only tickets were released after the game had initially sold out.
Inning by Inning
T1: Cooper Underwood 1 mistake pitch to Chase Fralick resulted in a double, but F8 and strikeout got him out of the inning
B1: 1-2-3 inning. Advincula hard hit liner right at left fielder
T2: Bub Terrell line drive homer just barely over left field wall. Kent Schmidt ruins by diving for a routine grounder by not letting Advincula take a ball. Auburn goes on two-out rally allowing runners to get to 2nd & 3rd before a double by Bristol Carter, and he steals third (Zuckerman couldn’t land the tag while having him out). Walked the next batter and he was pulled for Jake Lankie and he gets the next batter out in one pitch.
B2: Ryan Zuckerman 2-run homer. Kerce walks then Will Baker lays down a perfect bunt single. Burress drives them in for a 4-3 lead. Lackey adds a 2-run homer for 6-3 lead.
T3: Schmidt messes up again by making an unecessary throw, putting a runner at second. Bingaman’s flyball to left just barely lands short of Brosius, holding up Guevara at third. Loy comes in relief and gets final two outs with bases loaded.
B3: 1-2-3
T4: 1-2-3
B4: Kerce single. Burress drives him in on single and scores on 3-base error
T5: 1-2-3
B5: Kerce 2-run HR
T6: 1-2-3
B6: Leadoff walk then 1-2-3.
T7: 1-2-3.
B7: Advincula gets on base. Hernandez double drives him in, 11-3 GT. Schmidt single in a bad spot to score Hernandez, holds at third. Advincula scores on Zuckerman double play for 12-3 GT lead.
T8: Advincula leaps to grab a 110mph line drive out of the air. 1-2-3.
B8: Caleb Daniel pinch hit “walk-off” home run, 13-3 mercy rule win
