Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is currently the No. 1-ranked cycle in Rival's updated standings after landing its fourth five-star commit, offensive lineman Kennedy Brown, who announced his intentions last weekend, while the Aggies are now the favorites to land five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews.
However, on Thursday, On3 recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong released his prediction for the Texas Longhorns to land the No. 2-ranked prospect, and five-star cornerback John Meredith, who is coming off a visit to Austin, while the Aggies are now reportedly trending for the No. 9-ranked prospect and fellow five-star CB Joshua Dobson.
Still, after his interview with AggieYell insider Joseph Hastings, Meredith may have received a prediction to land with the Longhorns, but is still very high on Texas A&M, reaffirming his comfort at both programs before his official visits to College Station and Austin this summer.
However, one of the primary reasons Texas is now leading for the blue-chip prospect is his budding relationship with Longhorns cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey, who has helped head coach Steve Sarkisian develop a host of current and future NFL corners.
In the highly competitive NIL landscape, these in-state battles between Texas A&M, Texas, and Tech will continue, but if the Aggies are able to land five-star CB Joshua Dobson, both staffs will be very happy to have secured commitments from the best cornerback prospects in the cycle.

“Coach O is my dog. He came to see me at a practice (on Tuesday) and we had a good conversation,” Meredith stated. “He kept it real with me. I’ve seen who they’ve recruited. They’re (waiting) on me.”
