Everyone will be trying to catch Wyndham Clark on Moving Day.
Clark set a new 36-hole record at Shinnecock Hills when he got to 7-under on Friday afternoon. That gave him a three-shot lead over the field at the U.S. Open at the time, which marked an incredible turnaround for the man who left the major championship last season in controversy.
Matt Fitzpatrick, Xander Schauffele and Sam Stevens are tied in second at 3-under, four shots behind Clark at the midway point of the event. Rory McIlroy, after a rollercoaster of a back nine on Friday, dropped to even on the week. Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler will also enter Saturday seven back of Scheffler.
The top 60 and ties made the cut into the weekend. Most LIV Golf members, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm failed to make it past the second round.
Clark and Fitzpatrick will go off in the final group on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 p.m. ET. While Clark is only halfway through, he’s in full control of the tournament and already at a number many didn’t expect to see at all.
