TCU football is moving closer to its 2026 season opener against North Carolina in Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 29. As the Countdown to Kickoff continues, we’ll highlight a former Horned Frog whose jersey number coincided with the number of days remaining until the opener. At No. 32 is former TCU linebacker Travin Howard!
Howard spent four years with the Horned Frogs and recorded over 100 total tackles in each of his last three seasons. He finished his TCU career with 343 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions, 11 pass breakups and a pick-six. Howard played in 51 games over his TCU career and broke out during his sophomore season, when he earned an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
The 6-foot-1, 213-pounder from Longview, Texas received All-Big 12 First Team awards during both the 2016 and 2017 seasons. His senior season, Howard was named Defensive MVP of the Alamo Bowl, where TCU took down Stanford. He also became the first player in program history to lead the team in tackles for three straight years. His 343 total tackles ranked first among any Horned Frog defenders in Gary Patterson’s tenure as head coach.
Howard was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played in 29 NFL games and made two starts, posting 44 total tackles, six pass breakups and one interception. After a four-year run with the Rams, Howard signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2023 and then briefly played with the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL in 2024.
