As the NBA engulfs itself in free agency, the Oklahoma City Thunder have learned who they'll face in the 2026 NBA Cup. In an effort to pump excitement into Adam Silver's brainchild, the league continues to make tweaks around the in-season tournament to spice up the winter months of the regular season.
As a reminder, the NBA has six groups of five teams. They each play each other once for a total of four group games from Oct. 30 to Nov. 27. The Thunder will be part of West Group B. The other four teams are the Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Clippers, New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies.
The Thunder will host the Timberwolves and Pelicans. They will travel on the road to face the Clippers and Grizzlies. The six group winners plus two wildcard teams — one from each conference — will advance to an eight-team knockout tournament.
The NBA Cup quarterfinals will be on Dec. 4-5. The semifinals will be on Dec 8-9. The 2026 NBA Cup finals will be on Dec. 11. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be hosted at the higher seed's home gym. Meanwhile, the finals have shifted from Las Vegas to Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana.
As a reminder, the NBA Cup winner receives financial bonuses. The deeper you get into the tournament, the more money each player on the roster receives. Every game minus the NBA Cup finals also counts toward the regular-season standings.
Let's see how the rest of the summer goes, but the Thunder should be the favorite to come out of their group. They played in the 2024 NBA Cup final, losing to the Milwaukee Bucks and the 2025 NBA Cup semifinals, losing to the San Antonio Spurs. It's one of the only things that OKC has yet to accomplish since Shai Gilgeous-Alexander joined the team.
