The 2026 French Open continues through the second round on the storied clay courts of Roland Garros.
On the women’s side, No. 17 seed Iva Jovic has been one of the tournament’s breakout stars. She opened her campaign with a commanding straight-sets victory over Alexandra Eala in the first round, then followed up with another impressive win Thursday, again in straight sets, against Emma Navarro.
In the third round, she faces her toughest test yet: a clash with four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
Osaka has also captured attention with both her performance and her standout on-court style. In her opening round, Osaka edged out Germany’s Laura Siegemund 6-3, 7-6 (3) in a tightly contested battle. She followed that with a convincing straight-sets win over Donna Vekic in the second round.
On the men’s side, Novak Djokovic overcame both the sweltering Paris heat and a determined 74th-ranked Frenchman, Valentin Royer, in a grueling 3½-hour battle to book his place in the third round. Djokovic will now face No. 28 seed Joao Fonseca on Friday.
Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev celebrated a significant milestone by earning the 550th victory of his career, defeating Tomas Machac in straight sets in the second round, setting up a third-round matchup against Quentin Halys on Friday.
