2025 Season in a Nutshell

The 2025 Cardinals were the greatest team in the history of online gambling. No team covered more revised second-half point spreads or cleared more mid-game overs. Jacoby Brissett and Trey McBride won a gazillion fantasy leagues with their meaningless last-minute touchdowns. When the Cardinals entered a fourth quarter trailing 35-10, a surge of energy and activity pulsated through sports bars across the nation. Take the Cardinals +20! Take the Over at 60 points! It’s money in the bank!

ESPN predicts the Arizona Cardinals sign S Reed Blankenship & C Cade Mays in free agency.

Both are odd fits for the Cards. Blankenship was a JG guy and Mays would likely have to shift to left guard, where he struggled in 2023.

Have heard the Cardinals are intrigued by Bears backup QB Tyson Bagent. He has one-year left on his deal so would have to trade for him. Grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia and went to Shepherd University. Was an undrafted free-agent who beat out PJ Walker for the backup job with Chicago and was so good the Bears signed him to a 2-year $10M extension.

Michael Bidwill on why he has not hired a team president: “I am the team president. I am the team president. Next question.”

Interesting from Mike LaFleur on 98.7 earlier:

"We're gonna operate better than anyone in the NFL. And I really believe that. Because that takes no talent. That's just setting foundations with our cadence, with our formations, with how we break the huddle. That I can guarantee."

The bar is set so low regarding in-game time management. If ML can just get them to be league average, it probably equates to a win or two.

How about working on tackling?

Blocking?

I actually believe the offense will be improved over last season even if Jacoby is the QB for most of the year. Better play calling by MLF, better offensive game plans from Nathaniel Hackett, better QB coaching by Matt Schaub. The downside is they missed an opportunity to upgrade the o-line coaching. I do expect Monti to attempt to upgrade the line.

But it may be ugly early on.

Monti Ossenfort's reputation has taken a "significant hit" over the last year, per
@DougHaller
"Arizona’s injuries were unfortunate, but the roster’s lack of depth was jarring. How Ossenfort survived, unlike coach Jonathan Gannon, was head-scratching."

I feel like this mirrors the thoughts of most rational Cardinals fans.

So anyone that doesn't agree with your view on Monti is irrational? I consider myself a rational, level-headed fan and I was not in favor of dumping Ossenfort after last year. Not that I think Monti was any better than average, but an organization needs some stability, and GM's typically get a little more rope than head coaches. Let's give Monti one more year.

Agree. Front office and several assistant coaches are on a one-year prove-it status.
Monti's horrible 2024 draft class set JG up for failure. The o-line coach(s) and DC are on thin ice.

IMO...yes. If you aren't going to give your HC a 4th year to show he is the guy, I don't believe it is rational to need to see another year from the GM. Believing Monti is going to be anything more than what he has shown to be over his first 3 seasons is wish casting. It's rose colored glasses. It's hopium. It's a homer view. I have no issue if fans want to believe that some miracle will happen, but I think they should also call it what it is, the least likely outcome.

Monti has provided three years of bad...what is magic about giving him a 4 year? To show that he can be a good GM 25% of the time? And what is the magic number or measure for success to retain Monti?

If his FA class doesn't hit 100%, it's that free agency is a tough business.

If his draft class doesn't have an immediate impact, then it is players take time to develop.

If he doesn't produce an above .500 season, it because of a new HC, a new QB or the division is too good.

EDIT...We are at the point of Monti needing to cut players he signed and drafted to try to get money to sign new players who can be better. Dude is already having to clean up his mess after he tanked a full year under the guise of cleaning up the previous guy's mess.

If it isn't, he's going to be called out.
