Wish ESPN would respect the players as they come off the board and get selected to an NFL team. As the Cards selected Virgil, the ESPN talking heads were yucking it up with Rams HC McVay about the selection of QB Simpson.

Virgil didn't get his 5 minutes of fame or the highlight clip. He was barely mentioned later after McVay was finished mugging for the camera.

I will make my disappointment known to ESPN. Welcome to AZ Mr. Virgil. Make those tools know who you are during the regular season.
I watched that. McVay starts every answer with "Hey...!". Really annoying.

What's the point of drafting this guy? He's not a speed wide receiver (4.57 40 time) nor one of those Shanahan/McVay motion, high degree of separation type guys.

He is a good receiver. He gets yac, .hard to bring down for such a thin guy.
He tracks the ball really well.
Adding a good player is always a good idea.

Be better if he ran a 4.2 certainly. But he has good game speed regardless of his 40 time.
...and Mike Wilson is gonna ask for 30 million next january...team needs some leverage and a safety net just in case

Yeah I wanted speed but the guys I wanted were all gone. Seems like a guy who can go up and get the ball so that's good.

5th rounder so not expecting a star

Reggie Virgil said Monti Ossenfort told him during his 30 visit that he was glad he ran a 4.57-second 40 time to get pushed down draft boards.A few weeks later, the Cardinals snagged Virgil in the fifth round.
You know its funny but we all sit here and say 4.5-4.6 is slow when probably in the pre combine days those time were blazing fast (of course times werent measured back then either) times have definitely changed

Virgil must have excellent playing speed because the Texas Tech announcers always referred to Virgil as having elite speed. Maybe he just didn’t train properly for the 40?
If you watch the film his game speed is fine. Not a burner ..but fast enough.

I'm not that familiar with him but if you google him the lack of speed is a pretty common point so it's either from his 40 time at the combine, or actual production or both.

I won't write him off his 40 time is faster than Boldin's was for example and look how good he panned out, you never know. He just seems redundant to me. MHJ doesn't play as fast as we were told he was. Mike is great but he's not a burner. Bourne I like, but again not a burner. We have a bunch of big WR's, Bourne is the smallest at 6'1" but not much speed. Doesn't mean it's impossible to overcome the Rams have had a great passing game and they didn't have burners either. So maybe CMLF will be able to create a good offense

The 40 thing is also "new". I'm old enough to remember when they always talked about how Mel Gray ran a 9.2 or 9.3 100, yards of course not meters. Denver had a guy who was similarly fast and the Colts had Carr(?) who was about the same, Raiders had Cliff Branch.Nobody talked about 40 times.

At some point people figured out the 40 was more relevant to football than the 100 time was.

Also guys are just trained differently, if you saw Gray or Branch they were small skinny guys. Branch is the uncle of Zach Branch who just went to the Falcons if you see Zach Branch in a tshirt with the sleeves cut off that kid is put together, he doesn't weigh much more than Cliff did but way more muscular and that helps with the speed. I mean look Tyreek Hill that dude is a tank

Larry Fitzgerald ran a 4.63 at the Indy Combine and Anquan Boldin ran a 4.71 :)
Virgil's strength is that he is a possession receiver with very good hands.
Yes yes yes. The 40 time is grossly overrated.

Probably didn’t need another skill guy, but they must have seen something they really liked. I’m down with this selection. He has the potential to revive this thread in a couple years hahaha

But...we have two RB's that run 4.3

gotta count for something...we have some speed.

Puca ran a 4.57 as well
that just tickles me..as a young Oak...I ran a 4.56 at 265 lbs

always gives me the feel goods to see these smaller athletes be slower than I was...that,..."One"...time, lol.
I cling to that 4.56 because Im pretty sure my base speed was closer to 4.7

but dammit, I clocked a 4.56!! LOL

Um no. The guy is clearly not that fast in the videos. Don’t listen to announcers about anything.
