Only two Commanders games have been announced, but both are in "prime time."

Well, though it doesn't fit the traditional definition of "prime time," certainly in essence, both games are for whatever it is worth scheduled for the same purpose and effect as prime-time games. What we know is that both Commanders' announced games are isolated games. That is, they are games that, though they may not be kicking off at 8 p.m. in "prime time," they are games when no other NFL games are being played.

First, there is the matchup that will find the Commanders squaring off against the Dolphins in Madrid, Spain. It is one of those 9:30 a.m. Eastern time zone kickoffs. This means that all eyes of NFL fans watching the NFL on that particular Sunday morning (November 16) will be watching the Commanders-Dolphins contest, as it will be the only game being played until the 1 p.m. Eastern games begin.

The same is true for the other game released. In that contest, the Eagles will come to Landover to face the Commanders at their Northwest Stadium home. It is a Saturday contest being played on December 20. That game, too, will be the only NFL game being played at that time.

Consequently, after only two games were released early, both isolated games or games unaccompanied by any other NFL games at that time, it is more than obvious that the NFL wants the Commanders this season in front of larger television audiences. So, when the remainder of the schedule is released on Wednesday, look to find the Commanders playing Sunday Night, Monday Night, Thursday Night, and perhaps even on Thanksgiving and/or Christmas as well.

The NFL supposedly limits an NFL franchise from being scheduled for more than six prime-time games in a single season. However, remember that the NFL has also added that they can flex some games into prime time in recent years. So, conceivably, the Commanders could be playing in more than six prime-time games.

Each NFL team plays 17 games over the 18-week season, providing each team a single bye week.
