The Chargers selected former Clemson safety R.J. Mickens with the No. 214 overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Los Angeles added depth to the safety room and a special teams presence with the selection of Mickens in Round 6.
Mickens is an experienced player, as he recorded 229 tackles (13.5 for loss), seven interceptions, 15 pass breakups, and a fumble recovery over 2,174 career snaps in 60 games (30 starts).
Mickens shows the desired skills for the position, possessing the instincts, physicality, and pursuit skills. These traits would all translate to special teams.
