The race to go No. 1 overall in the 2025 NFL Draft appears to be over, at least according to sportsbooks.
Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward opened with the second-best odds (+450) to be the No. 1 pick at BetMGM last year and became the betting favorite a few months ago in early January. Former Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders opened as the favorite with +300 odds at BetMGM.
Ward passed Sanders as the betting favorite (-135 to Sanders' +100 in early January) and has slowly become a bigger betting favorite as the draft process has played out.
This week, Ward moved all the way to a prohibitive -10000 favorite at BetMGM — and even higher at other sportsbooks — meaning that a $100 bet on Ward would win $1 for a bettor. Ward was a -3000 favorite last week and as low as a -250 favorite in early March.
The -10000 odds equate to an implied probability of 99% that Ward will go No. 1 overall.
Ward has by far the most money (62%) wagered on him to go first at BetMGM, but only the third-most wagers. Sanders (66-1 to go No. 1) and Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter (50-1) have the most wagers and represent the two biggest liabilities in the market at the sportsbook; those bettors seem very likely to be disappointed.
Ward went No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans in the latest mock draft from Charles McDonald and Nate Tice, a position he has occupied in each of the last four mock drafts the pair has done.
The 2025 NFL Draft will take place April 24-26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
