Armand Membou is the name on the minds of New York Jets fans.

Membou, an offensive lineman from Missouri, was New York's top selection at No. 7 overall in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL draft.

As the team's first pick at this year's draft, Membou will have a chance to make an impact with the Jets. You'll want to get to know such a player now.

With that, here are eight things to know about the newest Jets cornerback:

Parents are immigrants

Membou's name comes from Cameroonian roots. His parents, Suffo Membou and Annie Melong, came to the United States and their son evidently found love in playing America's most-popular spot.

A profile on Membou from the Columbia Missorian wrote:

Membou is the son of Cameroonian immigrants whose first language is French. He speaks a little himself — not as much as he used to when he was younger, but he understands it enough.

Put in the work early during COVID

In the same profile of Membou, it's said he used the COVID-19 pandemic to his advantage in a way.

Now a massive offensive lineman in the NFL, Membou was not always that. Early on in his high school football career at Lee'Summit North High in Missouri, Membou was an awkwardly skinny offensive lineman.

Then during the pandemic, Membou bulked up in a big way. He took his diet seriously and hit the weights during COVID and when he returned to the team when play resumed, he was called "unrecognizable."

Natural athlete

Along with football, Membou tried his hand at plenty of other spots such as tennis, wrestling, track, basketball and soccer. That made him a well-round athlete and that was on display during the NFL combine.

During the coveted 40-yard dash, Membou ran a 4.91 time which is ridiculous for a man of his size:

The final piece?

The reason the Jets selected Membou was to complete their offensive line. Four of the spots were filled, but right tackle had a hole and now Membou completes the unit.

But Membou comes to New York in good company, of sorts. The Jets have not been shy about selecting offensive linemen early on in draft in recent years. Membou is the fourth first-round O-lineman the team has selected since 2020.

Membou could also be in good company in another way. He's the highest-selected Jets offensive lineman since D'Brickashaw Ferguson (4th overall) in 2006.

A model player

After being selected by the Jets, Membou revealed who he modeled his game after growing up. It was Tyron Smith, the former Jet player from last season who decided to retire this offseason.

Essentially Membou is replacing Smith's spot at tackle, too.

Passing PFF grades

Membou was a fast riser on draft boards during the 2024 college football season.

Membou's stock jumped following his efforts last season as Pro Football Focus' grade on him was a 90.6 in 12 games played last year. That was up from a 67.1 the year prior.

In addition, he did not allow a sack in 2024:

According to @PFF, Armand Membou last season was 1 of 2 Tackles to earn 85.0+grades as a run blocker and a pass protector. Membou also did not allow a sack or quarterback hit.

Jets really did their homework

According to FOX Sports, the Jets went into overdrive while scouting Membou prior to the draft. It was reported that head coach Aaron Glenn had multiple extensive conversations with Membou just in the past week alone:

I’m told the #Jets had TWO 45 minute zooms with Armand Membou this week — clearly he sold them on his potential to become an anchor for the next decade. https://t.co/WejBH0Wee3

Even got praise from the last front office

Former Jets general manager Joe Douglas had nothing bad to say about his last employer nor did he have anything bad to say about Membou after he was selected. Instead, Douglas raved about him.
