They did a commendable job not phoning it in after the trades were made, but if you look at the whle season in its entirety, they were underperformers in the first half, it took them 100 games to get their starting pitchers straightened out, the bullpen was a horror show, and the stubborness to stick with things that weren't working all did them in.

I'm guessing Lovullo will be back because he's Hazen's guy, and they've convinced themselves that they were playoff contenders and a good team. But closing strong and getting above .500 before folding at the end of the year doesn't make you a good team.

Lovullo will get a multi-year extension to continue his training program to become a better in game manager and bullpen master. Ownership will say that the Dbacks are a .500 (or slightly below) team and with Torey at the helm we plan to stay there - but that's contending, right?

If we were just taking one wild card team that team would be 94-68 in the AL (NY or Toronto) and the 92-70 Cubs in the NL.

Now were' talking about the 89-73 Red Sox and 87-75 Tigers in the AL and 90-72 Padres and 83-79 Reds. Meh. I can see the argument for the Padres being good, but the Red Sox were a third place team and the Tigers wilted in the 2nd half.
