The 2012 NFL draft provided the Tennessee Titans with an opportunity to select a former Super Bowl MVP, a former NFL receiving yards leader, and a former first-team All-Pro cornerback with the No. 82 overall pick that year.

Instead, the Titans chose defensive tackle Mike Martin at No. 82 overall. Martin played four seasons in the NFL from 2012 to 2015. He recorded 4.0 sacks and 12 tackles for loss in 46 career games played (five starts), all with the Titans.

Tennessee entered the 2012 NFL season with Jake Locker as their starting quarterback and Matt Hasselbeck as his backup. The Titans had the chance to go in a different direction at No. 82 overall rather than selecting Martin.

New selection: QB Nick Foles (Retired)

  • No. 88 overall pick — Philadelphia Eagles

Foles won Super Bowl LII with the Eagles in 2018. The Texas native was named Super Bowl MVP after leading Philadelphia to a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in the big game. He stepped in for the injured MVP candidate, Carson Wentz, during the postseason. Foles holds the NFL’s all-time record for playoff completion percentage at 68.1 percent.

Honorable mention: WR T.Y. Hilton (Retired)

  • No. 92 overall pick — Indianapolis Colts

Hilton recorded more receiving yards (861) than the Titans’ leading receiver that year, Nate Washington (746), as a rookie in 2012. Hilton reached 1,000 receiving yards five times in his career and led the NFL with 1,448 receiving yards in 2016.

Honorable mention: CB Josh Norman (Retired)

  • No. 143 overall pick — Carolina Panthers

Norman earned first-team All-Pro honors in 2015. That season, he helped lead the Panthers to a 15-1 record and an appearance in Super Bowl 50, recording four interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), 56 tackles, 19 passes defended, three forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.
