I like that dirk is going to the basket and just about every touch. he chandler, and marion have their pants on. hopefully some of the other mavs will join in.
exactly...that's the way it has been in this series. this is the way dallas should have played with that lead. a few more trips to the line would have put that game away.
terry's defense is killing dallas...and yet he stays in the game no matter what. it is beyond awful to watch. in the last game they actually had to be +20 when stephenson is on the court. terry cannot guard anyone on the blazers roster. best case scenario is that he hits some jumpers...but he is still going to give up layups and open shots for the blazers. i really wish carlisle would grow a pair and bench him.
awesome....where is manufan at? I'm not shocked that dallas is struggling with portland. But it is shocking to see that memphis is not just beating the spurs, but really taking it to them. the spurs are just worn down it seems.
The lakers are hard to figure as well. I thought that the portland/dallas series would go 7 in a toss up and that the nuggets could upset the thunder.
From there I thought the lakers would sweep NO and that the spurs would squeak out a win over memphis if they were healthy. I figured memphis would beat SA if manu was out.
for biased reasons I'm not watching that one.
the mavs/blazers is deadlocked. I mean this series is pretty match a draw. a bunch of tough guys clogging the lane at both ends. both teams don't really have much going for them unless their star players are going off. aldridge and roy for portland....dirk and well dirk for dallas. i like that dallas is not settling for jumpshots. they are attacking. the only time portland is really dominating the game is when dallas goes small. I really hope carlisle scaps that rotation and sticks with his bigger, stronger, aggressive guys...then dirk is going to have ride them to the finish.
the common perception around the league is that when cuban whines it ultimately backfires. I guess you can look for evidence in the amount of money he has paid to the NBA. Nate Mcmillian got fined 35K for his remark earlier....if it were cuban it would have been 100k.
Phil Jackson is one that actually said whining to the press causes the officials to get personal and ultimately leads to calls being emotional. He even eluded to mark's ranting leading to dallas getting hurt against miami in the finals by the officiating. Other professionals(not fans) have also said this hurts dallas with officiating. Look at the joey crawford stat. Dallas is like 4-13 in playoff games that he calls.
I don't know about portland, I will say that in the 4th quarter of the last game the calls went their way. However, they were more aggressive than dallas. they outscored them in the paint 18-0 in the 4th. that is inexcusable for dallas and is why they lost.
In this game dallas was aggressive from the start. Chandler was finally a beast. Dirk attacked the rim a lot more than previously. Marion also got into the paint. Dallas scored about half of their points in the paint, which for them is very good. I'd say they got to the line a lot because they were aggressive.
In the game I watched(game 1), SA was getting killed in the paint. Memphis was scoring a lot in the paint and getting wide open shots. Very much unlike what you've seen in the past from the spurs defensively. I think the spurs' lack of success is directly related to TD not being as good as he once was at either end of the court in the paint. The spurs are not the defensive team they once were. They need another big man to help TD in the paint. And they also need to rely less on the jump shot, but the main problem is TD's age. They've always had key jumpshooters, but what has always been their difference was TD scoring and defending the paint in tough situations. They always typically had that other big man as well to help him out. They don't appear to have that now. Blair is not that guy.
But this is just a nightmare matchup for SA. Memphis scores more points in the paint than any other team in the league. At least I thought I heard that stat earlier in the year. I would say this is atypical for an 8th seed. You could kind of see this coming. The spurs had the best record in the leage because they were a great team. However, they were also by far the most healthy team. Unfortunately, they got injured at the worst possible time. Manu's injury really opened the door for a memphis upset. I still think if they were 100% healthy this series might be in their favor slightly. But the west is so tough. Look at all the other series....
Caution: this is not over yet. If the spurs can win game 5 then this series is alive and well. Memphis better finish them off while they can.
How do the next rounds play out? If the spurs lose it might make for some very interesting matchups in round 2. From the standpoint that the matchups we all thought we would see...might not happen.
I thought the spurs would lose, but not until the 2nd or 3rd round. Memphis is a nightmare matchup for them. But memphis might be a nightmare matchup for anyone that plays them. they beat dallas 3 times this year too.
This WC is tough. The lakers losing like that?? to the hornets?

I see a good 7 gamer there, and it depends on how well Kobe holds up and which Gasol shows up. Bynam hasn't been injured for about a week now, I wonder how long that lasts.
