1 – I completely understand worries about if the offense is going to improve enough to be playoff-worthy. However, other than Murray being better, they should be much improved by default of the defense being much improved.

2 – The Cardinals have a rising star in Nick Rallis. He is an extremely bright DC. I have all the faith in the world that he will optimize the many upgrades on defense.

3 - I think that the starting offensive line for the majority of the season (barring injuries) will be Paris Johnson – Will Hernandez – Hjalte Froholdt – Isaiah Adams – Jonah Williams.

4 – On his highs, Murray is a top five quarterback in the NFL, so it is absolutely reasonable to dream that he could take the Cards far. Personally, though, I have given up. He is too unstable in his performances. He will probably start the season great, and I will get sucked into believing that now he has figure it out, but I feel pretty sure that he will end up letting everyone down again.

5 – I am very excited about the pass rush-unit, but I also feel that it is full of unknowns. Josh Sweat was great in the Super Bowl and played his best seasons with Gannon as his coordinator, but still, he is not a proven sack artist like (for example) Chandler Jones was when they bought him. Baron Browning has a ton of potential, but he still has not showed it throughout an entire season. Zaven Collins is just not a great pass rusher. Jordan Burch is a rookie. Xavier Thomas is way too up-and-down. It could be a great position group.

6 – Last season, Marvin Harrison was almost exclusively used as a typical x-receiver, and I don’t think that is the best way to get the most out of him. Throughout his career, Zay Jones have often lined up in that position and role, so if Petzing deploys him that way, Jones’ biggest impact might actually be what it means for Harrison.

7 – There seems to be a worry among fans and local reporters about the ILB-corps. Well, in Rallis’ Penny-system, the position is not that important. I am not saying that Mack Wilson could not become a big contributor, but it is just not strictly necessary. The front and back are by far the most important groups in the scheme.

8 – This will actually be the first time since high school that Paris Johnson starts at the same position two years in a row. Hopefully he can continue his upward trajectory from last season.

9 – Note that the dead money-penalty from cutting Murray after this season would go from 100 million this offseason to half of that. And if they trade him before June 1st, they only take an 18 million dead money-hit. Oh yeah, this season is very much make-or-break for Murray. If the season starts to become troubling, I would advise you to start watching a few college-games with the top-rated quarterbacks.

10 – Before the draft, the Cards has CB Asante Samuel in for a visit. Shortly after, he had neck surgery, and now ESPN is reporting that he will have a check-up in October, and that “suitors have kept in touch with him.” Just something to keep in mind.

5- don't write-off Beej Ojulari just yet. When you least expect it, expect it

7- Mack Wilson Sr is a one man wrecking crew. We actually run this penny defense exclusively to put a Safety next to Mack Wilson because the NFL rules have outlawed having too much ILB on the field at once and it was caught on tape last season that when the game is on the line Mack Wilson transforms into Chuck Norris. Then the offense has no choice but to go backwards.

1 most evaluations put this offense in the top third of NFL. Gandhi is coorect that the offense should benefit from the defense.
2 agree on Rallis
3 baring injury, Adams starts
4 not top 5, but probably top 10
6 Jones must have had a great training camp
8 Johnson will be solid

I really hope you are right, Oaken. I thought he showed some good things in the few opportunities he got, and I am certainly excited to see more. I just don’t know. You cannot ignore his injury time, either.

Who do you see him supplant, if he comes back in four weeks?

Yes, absolutely, Harry. I think the question is more if Hernandez get into the starting lineup. I personally think he does, but I also think he slides into left guard instead of right.

6 Jones must have had a great training camp
I pray that he did. I am very worried about the WR room. Granted, the position is not as important in Petzing’s scheme as in most schemes, but you still need at least two-three good options. I just think they are banking a lot on Jones stepping up.

4 - Disagree that at his best Kyler is a top 5 QB. Mainly because in that hypothetical scenario, he would be ranked against other QBs at their best.

6 - If Petzing doesn't move MHJ around this season, he deserves to be fired. Just go full Frieza on Krillin.

I knew that someone would react to that thought. :)

Well, there is the big four (Burrow, Allen, Mahomes, Lamar Jackson), but I do think that Murray – at his best – is better than any of the rest at their best. He is the most dangerous scrambler, and he have both the arm strength and accuracy to kill defenses that way.

The issue is the stability.

I'll play. Jalen Hurts is what Kyler should be at his best if he wasn't tiny in NFL standards. Baker Mayfield is what Kyler should be as a pocket QB. Kyler is not better at his best than either of those two players because he isn't fearless from the pocket like Baker and a consistent run threat like Hurts. He isn't as good as Stafford when Stafford is playing at his best. Jared Goff is better.

Even at his best, Kyler panics. Even at his best, Kyler is small. Even at his best, Kyler doesn't want to be a consistent run threat. Even at his best, Kyler is an ok deep ball passer. Even at his best, Kyler just runs the plays called (his words at times). This doesn't make Kyler a bad QB, but it pokes holes in this mythology that he has some untapped potential to be one of the best in the NFL. He doesn't. The biggest issue with Kyler are things he doesn't do and how he wants to play.

Kyler is elite in a couple areas and sub optimal in several others imo. As his running skill and scrambling ability erode in coming years his value will diminish.

Well, I disagree with all of it.

You're talking players at their best. What you want to do is compare Kyler at his tippy-top best to guys like Hurts at their regular play. Sorry, but Hurts at his best is definitely better than KM. Same with a lot of QBs, the ones ranked ahead of him. He is in no way and never will be a top 5 QB.
